Kitten Clinic Outreach

At Kitten Clinic, our work doesn’t stop at rescue.

We believe that real, lasting change in animal welfare starts within communities and that this is achieved by making veterinary care accessible, supporting pet owners, and preventing suffering before it begins.

Our outreach programmes are built on three core pillars:
access to care, education, and sterilisation.

By working directly in under-resourced communities, we’re able to provide essential treatments like vaccinations, deworming and parasite control, while also empowering owners with the knowledge they need to care for their animals long-term.

But outreach is about more than medical care — it’s about consistency, trust, and showing up. By returning regularly, we build relationships within communities and ensure that animals receive ongoing care, not just once-off treatment.

Through collaboration with like-minded organisations and local partners, we’re working toward a future where fewer animals suffer, fewer litters are born into hardship, and every pet has the chance at a healthy life.

Vrygrond Pet Clinic

Vrygrond Pet Clinic is one of our core monthly outreach programmes, run in partnership with Afripaw and TEARS. Together, we aim to uplift animal welfare in underprivileged areas where access to affordable vet care is limited.

Our team runs the cat side of these clinics — providing vaccinations, deworming, defleaing, and minor health checks for cats in the community. We work hand-in-hand with Afripaw and TEARS to focus on sterilisation, helping to reduce unwanted litters and improve the long-term wellbeing of both pets and their owners.

These clinics are about more than just medical care — they’re about building a culture of responsible pet ownership. We hand out food to pet owners in need and spend time educating families on the importance of sterilisation and keeping up with routine treatments. By returning every month, we ensure that once an animal is sterilised, their health stays on track through regular deworming, defleaing, and vaccinations.

De Gat Outreach

sterilisation drive

Our De Gat outreach is a growing initiative focused on bringing accessible, preventative veterinary care to an underserved community on the edge of Heathfield.

This programme is made possible through a strong partnership with Cope with Hope, a local organisation that has been working within the informal settlement of De Gat for over 30 years, as well as Peninsula Vet. Together, we are building a sustainable model of care that supports both animals and the people who love them.

On 15 March 2026, we hosted our very first mass sterilisation drive in De Gat. In a single day, we sterilised 66 animals — 62 cats and 4 dogs. Each animal also received their first vaccination, as well as flea, tick, and deworming treatment, and was sent home with a small pet food parcel.

But this is just the beginning.

Our goal is to grow this initiative into a monthly mini pet clinic, providing consistent access to essential care such as anti-parasite treatments, basic health checks, and nutritional support. Ongoing sterilisation drives will remain a key focus, helping to reduce overpopulation and improve overall animal welfare in the area.

Education is also a central part of this work. Alongside our veterinary services, we are running an outreach programme for children in the community — teaching the fundamentals of animal care, compassion, and responsible pet ownership.

Through this combined approach of treatment, prevention, and education, we aim to create lasting change — improving the lives of animals while empowering the community to care for them long-term.
